#SuperBowl Blackout

So I’m watching the “Big Game,” seeing a record breaking kickoff return, and just a few moments later, blackout.

I’m not an avid football game, but I enjoy watching on occasion. And I’m a big fan of the unexpected. It will be interesting to see how this affects the game going forward.

Back to it, boys.

Dropping Our Faith In Christ

I read that line in my Morning and Evening devotional on Logos the other day. What a great truth! So simple yet so profound.

We don’t really “lose” our faith, do we? We drop it. Leave it behind. Fail. Reject. Stray. But Christ never leaves us. Never forsakes us. Because He understands that we will lose faith. Lose heart. Wain. Wander. He just wants us to pick our faith back up, and, in so doing, pick ourselves back up.

And, through it all, He fervently loves us.

I Take Myself Too Seriously

If you are a #NoCamo reader, you have probably noticed that I have slipped in and out of regularity with regards to posting (that sentence is very awkward, but I’m keeping it).

I’ve been trying to determine why. I could say that it is due to schedules, or Christmas, or, well, any number of things. But I think I’ve figured out the main reason.

I take myself WAY too seriously. Continue reading “I Take Myself Too Seriously”

Very, Very Blessed Indeed

I am sitting on the couch at my father’s house. Wife with her head resting on my shoulder. Children nearby. Lord of the Rings on the flat screen. I’m typing a blog post with one hand on my dying iPhone, barely realizing how blessed by God I truly am.

Merry Christmas!!

Don’t Be Hatin’ the 5

Has anyone else noticed the incredible amount of animosity being shown to those who would would dare purchase the iPhone 5 by those in the technology world?

I just saw a post on Google+ with the following caption…

iPhone 5… For those with more money than sense.

Comments such as these are everywhere. Apple didn’t change the 5 enough. Other companies are pushing the envelope. It’s the same phone in a different package.

Let’s see… the company that basically invented the smart phone as we know it has released the latest iteration of arguably the most popular consumer electronics product in the history of the world, and those that wish to purchase said item are elitist and dumb?

You don’t have to be an Apple fan to see that as a misguided premise.

Freedom Part 1 – Introduction

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

For the next few days, as we in the United States celebrate Independence Day, I am going to explore the use of the word freedom in the Word of God. I’ll be referencing different verses, but much of my time will be spent in Galatians 5.

Freedom is an important aspect of salvation, and we are going to delve into how it relates to our walk with God and our ability to live as we ought. It is through freedom that we can live a life without fear, confident in our Creator and our salvation. I hope this study will be a blessing and encouragement to you. To get the ball rolling…

What comes to mind when you think of the word freedom? Politics? Oppression? Grace? Choice? George Michael songs? (Please, that’s just a joke – no calls.)

I Am a Writer

I am going through Jeff Goins on-line workshop entitled 15 Habits of great writers (if you would like to join us, you can find day 1 here).

The challenge for today is a simple one… Call yourself a writer. Publicly and proudly.

Done. I am a writer.

Looking forward to the days ahead!

My Young Blessings

Yesterday, I baptized my daughter.

I am so thrilled for both my kids, as they both have accepted Christ at an early age and I got to baptize them both soon after their salvations.

I was saved at an early age, and I know what a blessing that is. My entire life has been a journey of faith, and, though I have the hills and valleys in my relationship with Christ that everyone does, I can point to a day when I was only five years old that I asked Jesus to save me.

I’d ask that you pray with me for Tony and Lydia. May they always acknowledge God’s presence in their lives. May they submit to the authority of God and rest in the comforting arms of their Father.

My kids are a true treasure to me. I am a failed, mistake-prone father, and they know it. But they also know I love them. And they love me.

Happy Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day. I am grateful for the sacrifices made by those who currently serve, and especially for those who valiantly gave their lives for the freedoms we all enjoy every day.

Let us all take a moment today to pray for the men and women in our Armed Forces. May God continue to bless our country, and may her leaders honor Him as they lead.
