Word of God, Speak

I can relate.

On the rare opportunity I get to speak, it is hard to forgo my pride, dig into the Word, and mine the truths that God wrote instead of my simple thoughts.

But it is drastically important.

It is so easy for me to get caught up in the idea of preparing the Next Great Sermon that I fear I may fail to actually speak the truths that the Holy Spirit wants to convey through me.

Whenever I am studying for a message, I begin to think of points too early. I have had to learn to let the text shape the direction, flow, focus, and content of what I say in response to the Word.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. -Hebrews 4:12 ESV
