Not a Camouflaged Soul

  • Tiger-ade

This week, I went golfing for the first time in my adult life.

I really had a good time, and I’m looking forward to going to the driving range to work on what I learned.

I went with my good friend Jason, who recently got home from serving as a chaplin in Cuba. He is a very good golfer and a fan of Tiger Woods on the Wii. As we stopped at the clubhouse after the 9th hole for a much-needed drink, he remarked that he liked Tiger’s Gatorade. He called it Tiger-ade, and wondered aloud whether or not it improved the golf game of those who drink it.

    That got me thinking…

if someone drank Jon-ade, what would they be able to do better?

Jesus left instructions for us, not just to give the Gospel, but to make disciples (Matthew 28:19). Our responsibility does not end when a lost soul is born again: it begins!

I once heard Steven Furtick say that the church stops serving you when you get saved. Upon our conversion, we are to utilize our spiritual gifts and find a place to serve. And that takes guidance.

God puts people in our lives that are less spiritually mature than we are, and He wants us to speak into their lives and guide them. We must be willing.

Our churches are full of spiritually immature Christians, and it is the responsibility of every believer to make the most of the opportunities we are given. We can’t rely on our pastor or church staff to do our jobs for us.

Is there a thirsty Christian out there that needs a drink only you can provide?

  • Heights and Lights

I had to climb a ladder yesterday in the balcony of my church to do some maintainance on a projector. Perilously close to the edge (dramatic exageration added for effect), I attempted to remove the bad bulb, but could not get the screw to turn. Just as I began to lose my cool, I grabbed a flashlight. Suddenly, I realized how badly I was missing the slot in the screw, and was able to change out the bulb. Just that little bit of light made all the difference.

What keeps us from trusting God’s word for guidance? Arrogance? Laziness? If we were honest, a lot of times we just don’t believe what it says.

The Bible is the Word of God! Do we know better than Him? Can we actually say that His word “is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” if we don’t consult it when we don’t know the way? (Psalm 119:105)

The Word of God can guide us through dark times. Why don’t we let it?

  • Trust Him pt. 2

We as Christians are to be constantly striving through the power of the Holy Spirit to be more like Jesus Christ. God enables us to learn how to be more like Jesus using a variety of means. When our path involves going through trials, we MUST trust God. If we don’t, we risk bitterness, which is crippling! SO many times I have been at the end of what I can deal with and could do NOTHING ELSE but trust Him. Sometimes, that alone is His goal!

It is so important to remember that, at times, God refuses to deliver us from trials until we have learned what we need for the next step in His plan for our lives. God alone knows this plan, so He alone knows the tools we will need to accomplish what He desires.

We often hear, “God is God, and I’m not.” But we often forget (or reject) what that really means.

I’m not God. I will never be God. And God knows what He’s doing. He is on my side. He wants what is best for me. He knows how best to enable me to better resemble His Son. I can take courage and comfort from His perfect love, and so can you.

“You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
    because he trusts in you.
    “Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD GOD is an everlasting Rock.
    Isaiah 26:3-4 (ESV)
